aquacure water kit

The goal of this kit is to empower individuals with knowledge about the risks of contaminated drinking water and provide necessary tools to identify the safest water sources and effectively filter them after natural disasters or emergencies.

Focus

Brand Identity, Packaging Design, Product Design

Access to safe drinking water is an essential resource that the human body needs. Yet natural disasters like floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and tsunamis can contaminate drinking water supplies, making it unsafe to drink. Contaminated water can cause illness, especially for those with health problems, pregnant women, infants, and the elderly. These diseases can be prevented worldwide with citizen science.

"In 2022, 2.2 billion people lacked access to safe drinking water, and 3.5 billion people lacked access to safe sanitation."

Research

For this project I was tasked to create a sustainable packaging kit in partnership with Citizen Science. At the time of this project, huricane John had hit and left Acapulco flooded, leaving many displaced and stranded. Creating a kit for citizen scientists to find and report the safest water sources during these times would save many from diseases.

Some keywords that helped my design thinking during the early stages of the design process:

Educational, Safety, Sustainable and Trust.

Pattern Ideation

Creating a pattern for this branding was inspired from the cross that are used by well known aides such as American Cross, to further create a sense of trust and importance to these Citizen Scientists.

Prototype

This kit includes essential test strips for assessing water quality, such as PH Balance, Nitrate, and Hydrogen Sulfide, allowing for testing up to three times. Additionally, each kit features a portable water straw.

Exterior Design

Since this kit is meant to help after natural disasters, it was important to include Spanish and English instructions to reach more families in need. This was also where I showcased more of the patterned design.

interior design

I included the instructions for this design in Spanish and English using friendly vocabulary and a visual chart to guide citizens. Once they have found the safest water source in their own home or neighborhood, they can go on to report to help keep their community safe.
